McAfee Anti-virus program

Hi

I'm using the latest version of McAfee.

I've been having troubles connecting to the internet lately: it'll either
connect but won't "do" anything (ie. a dead connection), or it won't connect
at all. However, if I keep trying, it will eventually connect. On the rare
occasion it also restarts (the computer, that is).

At first I thought it was a virus, but after downloading all the Microsoft
patches and checking for viruses with a few different virus programs,
nothing came up and I still have the problems.

The only thing I can figure is that my firewall is causing this. If I turn
off the firewall, I can connect okay (usually). I read somewhere on the net
that the firewall could be causing this problem, but it gave no fix.

Is there something I should make sure isn't activated in McAfee? If so, how
do I do it? (I'm not at all familiar with firewalls).
