Is this Symantec version a good choice for a home computer? Is it
protecting better or worse than the home version?
I've seen several posts where people say it is far better than the
home stuff. Why is it better? Is mail (Outlook Express) being scanned
as well?

Without any hesitation the answer is YES !

For some reason I ignore it need fewer ressources than NAV 2003 and is has
no licence to reniew each year (afaik)

No : SAV ignore MS-OE. That is to say it does not scan your mails "on the
fly". However it scan attachements when you click on them and when you save
them on the HD as well.

Yes. It can be installed on a workstation, stand-alone.

Is it

The malware data base should be the same, however, the SAV scan engine is
entirely different from the home version. It does not scan pop3 email nor
does it scan scripts. It can be configured to scan compressed files several
layers deep. It is far less resource intensive and is a much faster scanner.
I have found no conflicts with any of my systems or software, with the
exception of BOClean.
