Archived from groups: alt>comp>anti-virus, others (more info?)

When I try to install AVG 7 onto my windows 95 system [blush] it says
that I need to download DCOM95, although I already have the file in
question. After downloading the file DCOM95 again, from the Microsoft
website, I try and install AVG 7 and get the same message that says that
I need "redistributable install package DCOM95."

Is it possible for some kind soul to suggest a solution to this problem?
Does AVG 7 actually work on win95? If not then could anyone please
recommend an anti-virus that would work on 95? Something without massive
update signatures as I only have a dial-up modem. [still blushing.]

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated, I couldn't find any joy on
the AVG website.

Suzie C.

You could try AVAST 4 Free Edition according to them the requirements are "
For a computer with 95/98/Windows Me: PC 486, 32 MB RAM, 50 MB of free hard
disk space "

Problems abound when using anything as out-of-date as Win 95. Even 98 and NT
are problematic at this time.

If your computer is at least a Pentium 2 at 500 MHz or better, you should
upgrade to Win XP (alternative: Win 2000).

You don't mention how much memory you have, I couldn't use AVG7 on my
second 128M box.

If you're prepared to pay the initial yearly subscription of about £23,
NOD32 works fine on Win95. Been using it for about four years on W98SE and I
don't find any problems abounding.

I find with free products that you get what you pay for.
