AVG 7.5 update manager fails

AVG, version 7.5 no longer updates the database sucessfully. It
downloads the files but then displays a message that the process was
terminated and the downloaded files are not used. It also displays a
message that the "update manager" is out of date and needs to be
updated, but that is not possible since the update system doesn't
work. Solution might be to upgrade the main program to the new version
8, but I'm just wondering if there is an easy way to fix the version
7.5?

Any ideas?

Download the latest version. Disconnect from the net. Uninstall the
old version. Install the new version. Reconnect to the net. Use the
check for updates, to update the virus definitions.
