AVG 7.5 slows computer down

I just removed AVG 7.5 from my computer. It slowed it down in a way I
could not possible imagine - starting up could take enough time for me
to cook my dinner, especially if it - very often - downloaded the
latest updates.
Getting mail using pop3 was app one minute pr mail (plain text and
short messages).

I just removed it as it was worse than the virus I once had (and
easily removed myself).

So what if I spread viruses - the anti virus was far more irritating
than any virus.

Still I have one problem - which maybe is a virus?
I cannot see thump.db files or found.000 directories.... dont know
why...
