Curious, is it normal for AVG Free:
Using Windows 98se and AVG free, when starting up the pc, AVG scans (dos),
then into Windows, then updates itself- after updating, the pc needs to be
re-booted..
This is daily, is this normal??
Thanks!

a) Yes, it's normal. You are running on Win9x, which needs to reboot
after most software updates.
b) You can change AVG settings so that it does not check for updates on
reboot, or every day. You probably don't updates more than once a week,
since most new malware is directed at XP and Vista, not 9x. But that's
your call - if you want to update every day, do so.
c) I( advise upgrading to faster hardware and Windows XP as soon as
possible. MS has announced that it will stop providing XP sometime later
this year. I don't recommend Vista at this time, mostly because it needs
even more resources than XP. Also XP has become a very stable OS, while
Vista is still in the usual "service pack" stage that every Windows OS
goes through. A laptop in the $400-$700 range will do nicely, but you
will have to insist that the vendor puts XP on it.

Thank you!!
I'll go in and change the settings.. this computer is not all that
important- and since it's at church, there is no need- nor funds- to get a
newer one.. the secretaries have the new machines, all running XP.. this was
a spare for me to use on occasion.. memo's, internet, etc....
I'm with you, btw.. XP has turned solid- I bought a Vista machine for my
daughter, and regret.. even with 4 gig, it crawls...
Oh well!!
thanks again!

Take a look at this FAQ. Usually this problem is to the WAIT4SD file,
it's a common bug in AVG 7.5

Thanks!
I followed all the steps, no wait4sd file, but a few tweaks and it no longer
happens...
