Archived from groups: alt>comp>virus (more info?)

In the past week I have received a few emails each day infected by the Sobig
and other viruses. I have AVG installed, with the latest virus definitions
and email scanning enabled. When I download the emails, AVG does not respond
but after I clear them to the trash and click that folder, AVG will inform
me that certain viruses have been detected and will be moved to the virus
vault. Is this the way it is supposed to work? If I had opened the
attachments in the inbox, I would have allowed the virus to infect my
system.

TIA.

I'm running AVG and I've seen it work both ways. Sometimes it will tag an
e-mail with a virus warning up front and sometimes that warning is displayed
only if I try to open the e-mail. I'm running SpamPal (which filters out
SPAM into a special folder) and I wondered if it routed some malicious
e-mails to my SPAM folder before AVG could scan it. Opening the e-mail
forces a scan. AVG has worked well in keeping my system virus and worm free.
