I run a scan and it finds all these different trojans, keyloggers, adware,
hijackers, downloaders, etc located in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{ long string of numbers}\ the file name.

There are literally hundreds of these listings and yet it's listing 0
Threats Found !

Is this stuff really there? Are they false positives? Are they a threat or
aren't they? I never saw this stuff before updating from 7.0 to 8.0.

Any help and/or advice is appreciated.

It's this issue...

"potentially dangerous" entries in my registry, specifically under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatability
http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?12,121853,page=1,backpage=,sv=

"just so you know- avg 8.0 free and pro has an incompatibility issue
with spybwareblaster and spybot search and destroy. If you see the
ie/compatablility active x registry keys, it is because these programs
use this type of scripting to stop active x in registry keys.
A lot of discussion on wilders security forums are about this and I
spoke to a representative at AVG Technologies, because i too am getting
them and i am a reseller for AVG and do not need all my clients
panicking when they see these.
The tech told me as long as they are in the "warning" tab to just ignore
them. Some have found if you remove them to the virus vault then delete
them, wierd things start happing with Windows.
Javacool who makes spywareblaster is suppose to talk to AVG Technologies
and figure this out."

Here's the FAQ on the issue:

1198: Infection detected in "ActiveX Compatibility" registry key

Jen, when AVG8 first came out, I had all these weird things found too.
That's been sometime ago. I sent them all to the vault, deleted them, and
so far nothing wired has happened to my Windows, and I also have
Spywareblaster and Spybot S&D.

jen,

thanks very much for the info and links. Now it all makes sense since I use
both spybot and spywareblaster.
